FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If your question is not answered here, please do not hesitate to contact Carley Wilemon at cgwilemo@go.olemiss.edu

Do I have to audition to be a part of the Ole Miss Choirs?
Yes.  Students (both music majors and non-music majors) are required to audition for choir. However, your audition is to give us the information we need to place you in an ensemble. So, rest assured, there is a place for YOU in Ole Miss Choirs.

How many choral ensembles do you have?
We have five ensembles that make up the Ole Miss Choral Department. Women’s Ensemble (SSA), Women’s Glee (SSAA), Men’s Glee (TTBB), University Chorus (SATB) and Concert Singers (SATB).  Concert Singers is our premiere auditioned ensemble with an established reputation for outstanding choral performance across the United States and in Europe.

Do I have to be a music major to be in choir?
Not at all! In fact, our choral program is about 40% non-music majors and we welcome anyone that wants to sing and contribute to our great organization.

How much time do the choral/vocal ensembles require?
University Chorus, Women’s Ensemble, Men’s and Women’s Glee all rehearse MWF from 12:00-12:50
Concert Singers rehearses MW from 2-2:50 and T TH from 2:30-3:45.

We typically perform anywhere from 2-4 performances per semester.

What kinds of scholarships are available?
Choral scholarships are available to students who elect to be music majors, music minors, or who simply want to participate in a choir as a non-music major. All students interested in receiving a choral scholarship must audition for the choral faculty. Scholarships are awarded based upon talent, and choral/vocal program needs.

Is there any additional cost to being involved in the Choirs?
There is a cost for obtaining your concert attire. For the women, the concert dress costs approximately $70 and for the men, the tuxedo costs approximately $140.  Once purchased, they are yours and are not returned to us.
